In order to meet the needs of a growing community, in 1972 the residents of what is now Lake View and surrounding areas created the Million Dollar Lakes Voluntary Fire Department and Rescue Union. The Voluntary Fire Department continued until 1977 when the Department was changed to the Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Union. In 1988, new legislation allowing the formation of Fire Districts in Tuscaloosa County led to change once more with the transition to the Lakeview Fire Protection District.
Since 1988, Lakeview Fire Protection District has proudly served the citizens of Million Dollar Lakes/Lake View and unincorporated Tuscaloosa County. Lakeview Fire now covers over 2500 rooftops, a busy section of interstate 20/59, a growing business sector, and responds to around 1000 calls a year.
